Hand Weaving

Dinah Rose

I have been a fiber artist all my life. I began weaving in 1995 after seeing a weaver at a festival. Enthralled by the artist’s ability to use color to express a mood in fabric, I knew with my background in fiber as a quilter that this was something I had to do. Weaving became the natural progression in my journey of exploring fabric and color. I have been taking classes and workshops from nationally known weavers ever since, always learning a new way of using color or structure in my work. Color combinations I see in nature, other artists' work, and silk garments I find in thrift stores are inspirations for me.

I am an opera and ballet fan and listen to classical music while weaving. While taking classical guitar lessons I became fascinated by the connections I saw between music, numbers and weaving. I wove some towels based on a piece of music I was learning and gave my teacher one of the towels as a wedding gift.

My cats can no longer steal my yarn as I have my own studio at the Artisan Resource Center in Marietta, GA. I didn’t mind when they took my cotton yarn but put my foot down at silk yarn. They would love my studio as it lets in lots of sunshine and has lots of places to run and jump, and of course lots of yarn to play with.
